Need to know about the NHL draft? Ask the experts
The 2026 NHL Draft is taking place in a few days, with Gavin McKenna viewed as a likely top pick for Toronto after posting strong production at Medicine Hat and Penn State, though Swedish wing Ivar Stenberg, defenseman Chase Reid, and center Caleb Malhotra have also emerged as potential top selections. The Blue Jackets hold the 14th overall pick, and general manager Don Waddell indicated he would consider trading it for immediate help as the team has missed the postseason in two consecutive seasons. Several draft picks and players were traded in the days leading up to the draft, with picks Nos. 4, 9, and 16 being dealt and teams like San Jose and St. Louis positioned to make additional moves.
