Oilers banking on ex-Red Wings coach to get them over the top
Mike Babcock was officially hired as head coach of the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday after the NHL cleared him to return following an investigation into his conduct during his time with Columbus. Babcock, who led the Detroit Red Wings to a Stanley Cup championship in 2008, previously coached Toronto before resigning from the Blue Jackets before the 2023-24 season amid allegations he asked players to share personal photos from their mobile devices. The Oilers replaced Kris Knoblauch, who was fired last month after the team lost in the first round to Anaheim.
