Mike Babcock was hired as the Edmonton Oilers head coach on Tuesday, replacing Kris Knoblauch who was fired May 14 after three seasons and two Stanley Cup Final appearances. Babcock, 63, was cleared to work after the NHL completed its review of his tenure in Columbus on June 18, concluding there was no basis to restrict his employment. Babcock had resigned from the Columbus Blue Jackets prior to the 2023-24 season following a report that he asked players to share personal photos on their private mobile devices.
