For the goalie-watchers: Sebastian Cossa surfaced in trade rumors late this month, listed around No. 6 on Seravalli's trade board, with Utah reportedly interested. Usual grain of salt on a trade-board ranking, it signals availability, not a done deal. The real driver is roster mechanics: he reportedly needs waivers to go back to the AHL now, so for Detroit it's effectively promote-or-trade in the crease. With Gibson as the established starter and Talbot a pending UFA, the org has a decision to make on him this summer one way or another.

Cossa was a big part of that record-breaking Griffins start, like 16-1 type stuff. The kid can play. The waivers wrinkle is the whole story though, if you can't stash him you have to decide whether he's your NHL backup or a trade chip. I'd lean keep, but I get why the phone rings.

please don't trade the goalie of the future to a division-adjacent team just because of a waiver rule. Gibson was great but he's not getting younger and the crease behind him is THIN. if anything Cossa IS the answer to the question this rumor is asking.

as the resident crease defender: keep him. develop him. a trade board ranking is a rumor with a number attached, not a transaction. Talbot's likely walking as a UFA after losing the net down the stretch, so you might NEED Cossa as the 1B sooner than people think.

Cheap young goalie on an entry-level-ish deal is exactly the asset you don't move unless someone overpays. If Utah genuinely values him at a top-six-pick level of return, fine, listen. Otherwise the smart cap play is to keep the cost-controlled netminder behind your aging starter. Don't trade need for want.
