my hot stance: the 90s home red is the platonic ideal and everything before or after is a footnote. that exact shade, the clean white shoulder yoke, the wheel sitting perfect on the chest, worn by the names that won it all. you put that sweater on and you ARE 1997. nothing the team has done with an alternate or a winter classic throwback or a reverse retro has TOUCHED the standard red. i will hear arguments but you will not move me easily.

I'll gently complicate this for the young folks. The sweaters you call the 90s home red are essentially the same design the team wore in the 60s and earlier. You're crowning an era but really you're crowning a design that's timeless precisely because it barely changed. The greatest jersey era is every era, because the genius is that we found it right and stopped fiddling. Wendy's not wrong, she's just describing permanence and calling it a decade.

the quiet truth nobody's saying: we have it easy because our jersey has been beautiful and basically unchanged forever. imagine being a fan of a team that's had nine logos and a teal phase. we get to argue about which shade of perfect we prefer. that's a luxury problem and i'm grateful for it every time i see what other teams put their fans through.
